Mangal Plantation
Cradled in the foothills of the Western
Ghats that run through Goa is Mangal. A sleepy hamlet located
in the county of Quepem.
Pass through some of the most beautiful
countryside and as you get to the foot of the jungle the blue
green hills loom over you. The surrounding forest is teeming
with bird and animal life. Close to Nature; that's what Mangal
is all about.
Set amidst the incredible bio diversity of the western Ghats,
Mangal represents a world of days gone by. Where the only
rush is that of leaves in the wind or of water flowing through
the tiny rivulet that lies within. One can spend the whole
afternoon in the water, in the shade of an old tree.
For those of you who just want to splash
around and have a swim; the river Khusavati awaits. Cool and
just wonderful. As you laze by the stream you could, maybe
sample some smoked fish and guzzle a couple of beers.
Here you can discover the amazing secrets
of the jungle. See how birds build their nests. Watch the
cycle of life begin at the onset of the monsoons. You can
even plant your own tree and take joy in it's growth every
time you return.
Trekking the nature walks are most recommended.
You could stumble upon ancient groves with a deity or two.
The area is also rich in archaeological sites that are well
marked out and have been most recently uncovered. Pre historic
sites with ancient carvings; dancing girls, oxen, animal hoof
prints on the river bed. Paik Dev ( The bubbling pond), Pandava
caves etc..
Observe interesting organic farming techniques. Orchids, anthruriums,
mushrooms, American Corn, Red Bell peppers, Cocum, Mango,
Cashew and many more varieties of vegetables are grown at
Mangal. Horticulture and agriculture, on a small, commercial
scale is also done.
